The Islip MOvie Theater is re-opening! The Islip Movie Theater has been closed since 2006. Built in 1946, it had been the place to see a movie in Islip Town. Since then the demand for more up to date seating and technology had made the Islip Movie Theater outdated.

Today, a long term lease has been signed to operate the three screen theater, which seats 900. The invester will be spending $500,000 to update the theater, including a new look, new seating, digital projectors for Real-D. It's anticipated that the cost per ticket will be about $2 less than the average ticket elsewhere. It's set to reopen in mid-march, and will be playing first-run movies. Lets all support our local theater that was a part of our lives for many years!

Islip Movie Theater History

• Circa 1946 - Opens on Main Street, becomes pulse of community's entertainment district.
• 1882 - Single theater becomes three screen movie house
• 2006 - Bows to increasing competition from mega cineplexes and closes. Purchased at auction.
• 2009 - Owner withdraws application to deolish the building and build day care center.
• 2013 - Set to Reopen Mid March
